We went on an outing to Everglades City, a small village on the west coast of Florida which is the NW access point to the Everglades National Park and the “ten thousand islands”. We met our friends Al and Bonnie at Clyde Butcher’s Gallery – the Big Cypress Gallery in Ochopee to see some fabulous local photography. Al and Bonnie brought two of their kids, Natalie and Olivia, and some good friends of theirs along.
We continued on to Everglades City, where we had a pre-paddling snack of conch fritters and Al and Bonnie’s famous Bloody Marys (for the adults). Then we launched the Dolphin and the rest of the group rented some canoes.
Our timing for going out on the water wasn’t great as we wound up paddling out against the tide and the wind and a couple of canoes capsized. But everyone survived, some of us got a good workout and all of us managed to have a good time.
Definitely an iconic South Florida day!
