We made another stop in Tucson to take Angel to the oncologist for a follow-up visit, but also to catch friends again before leaving the area. We stayed at the quirky Bar J RV Park once again. This little place has the most charming owners! Paul and Gale once again were gracious hosts.
Our friends Nancy and Bill had invited us to join them at the Tohono Chul Park for one of their “Holiday Nights”. On these nights part of the gardens are open to the public and offer live music, holiday treats and shopping.
But the best part is that they are decorated with “a million lights”. The gardens were just beautiful and the music was fantastic. So glad that Nancy and Bill invited us, as we weren’t familiar with this place or event.
It was a bit chilly, so we cozied up to the outdoor heaters all through the night.
We’ll have to visit again during the day to see the entire gardens as Tohono Chul Park was named one of the World’s Great Botanical Gardens by Travel + Leisure and listed by National Geographic Traveler as one of the top 22 Secret Gardens in the U.S.
The next day Hector and I went to the Fourth Street Fair, they have one in spring and one in winter. It was a huge arts and crafts fair with 400+ artists booths. There was entertainment, a kiddy play area and lots of sometimes odd food.
We spent the afternoon at the fair, which takes place in a very funky and interesting neighborhood.
Unfortunately, later that afternoon after Hector came down with a cold, just as I was finally getting over mine. But I was able to take care of most of our errands without him.
So I joined our friends Nancy and Bill for lunch and a tour of their home by myself. We met at Claire’s Cafe and Gallery, an adorable but very casual little place that has cooked to order food for breakfast and lunch. Their corned beef hash is fabulous. Claire’s is close to Catalina State Park and recommended for anyone staying there.
It was finally time for our visit to the veterinary oncologist for a check-up and more tests for Angel. Her tests all turned out well, she is tolerating medication without impact to her kidneys and her persistent urinary infection is finally under control. She’s doing so well that the veterinarian reduced her painkiller dosage. Great news all around.
We enjoyed more time with friends Nancy, Bill, Jean and Jerry that week, ending with dinner at Jean and Jerry’s on our last day there. Angel was quite happy to roam around their house and yard once again.
But it was time to leave Tucson and head to a more remote place where we plan to spend Christmas. Stay tuned.

Such wonderful news about Angel but not so good for Hector. Hope he is now on the mend. We will definitely add Tohono Chul Park on the list of places to visit. It sounds like a wonderful place to spend several hours. Have a blessed holiday you two! 🙂
He’s just getting over his cold, his was worse than mine. We are relaxing in the desert.
